Social Media Thoughts

I always knew it would be hard. Making an entire Social Media plan in order to promote someone or something can be a challenging process.

But, like all newbies, I started with good and optimistic thoughts and I believed I can do everything. I made all the plans, I organized my social media calendar and I made a list with all the subjects I wanted to write about.

Everything was settled and very well planned. And I started my campaign…

Now, after almost a month, I see things differently. Although it is just a homework with high demands, my social media campaign is moving really slowly. Slower than a snail. And I just wonder myself…“What did I do wrong? What should I do more?

Well, the thing is Social Media is not that easy. There is more about it than I read on a new released Social Media book or on the SM websites. Maybe it’s just my luck or the lack of experience that keeps me away from the great success.

Anyway, I comfort myself when I see other colleagues in the same situation. Actually, this post is especially for them. So dear colleagues, I know how you feel. It’s stressful and frustrating, but it’s all going to pass. Think positive, as one of our professors likes to say (a lot), and just take it easy. If something just doesn’t come as you want, read more about it and make it happen. Don’t panic because it won’t help you think clear and it will just darken your mind.

So, cheer up fellow colleagues! This is just the beginning of a lifetime of successful and not so succesful campaigns!

Optimize Your Facebook Profile for a Job Search

In these hard times, searching for a job is a common ritual. Now, your shiny resume is impeccable and it says great things about you. But what about your Social Media life? You most likely have a Facebook account, so what does it say about you? Employers will use these days all means in order to find the right candidate for the job, and Social Media is the easy one. So I’d say you should take a look at the following tips in order to optimize your Facebook profile for a job.

Before I begin, you should remove all unprofessional photos and content from your profile, or you risk to miss the chance of an interview.

Now, the Info section is very important because it has all the information about you and your activity. You should edit it properly so that is communicates a little bit about who you are, what have you studied what are your hobbies. Also, very important is to keep this information up to date.

Photos – review all your photos and remove the inappropriate ones that could harm your image in front of the employer.

Block Photo Tagging – you can block photos that others have tagged with you by changing the settings in the Privacy Settings section on your Facebook profile. This way you keep inappropriate photos to appear on your profile and be seen by others.

Well, if you want to keep your photos and notifications just for your friends, you should Limit your Visibility by setting Privacy settings to ‘Friends” and not ‘Public”. This way you also keep your information safe.

Now your Facebook profile is ready for Job search. I’d say that you should make it shine, just like you do with your resume. Be sure you make your Facebook profile say “I’m the man! You should hire me!”

I hope these tips had helped you in your job searching journey. Do you know any other profile optimization tips? If so, share them with me :)

Use Good Manners Code for YMessenger

Did you know that even Yahoo Messenger has its own Good Manner Code?

Gizmodo
has issued a Code of Good Manners for YMessenger users. Here are some of the good manners:

Don’t leave while conversations
This refers to actually interrupting conversations and leaving. The other person might not have finished the phrase.

Respect the Busy ones
You shouldn’t disturb a friend who has “Busy” on status because he or she may actually be very busy. Also, the “Busy” status shouldn’t be used when you are not busy because people will no longer take you seriously.

Be Right Back (BRB)
BRB should always be used when you leave from the computer, so your friends will know why you are not answering their messages.

Laughing Out Loud (LOL)
If BRB is recommended, LOL should never be used. Even if you LOL literally, you shouldn’t use it because it was abused by so many people and it was used in so many inappropriate ways that its significance was damaged.

Capitalized writing
Try not to write with capital letters otherwise people will think YOU ARE YELLING AT THEM!

Emoticons
Abusing emoticons can seriously damage language. Instead of using many emoticons try to think of appropriate words for each context separately.

I think people should take seriously this Good Manner Code for Yahoo Messenger. Nowadays, language is damaged by all kinds of abbreviations and expressions. To learn more about the Good Manner Code, read here

What do you think about the Good Manner Code for YMessenger? Do you know any other manners that should be taken into account when using Yahoo Messenger?
